    By studying the asymptotics of eigenfunctions as the spectral parameter goes to infinity in the upper half-plane, the author investigates properties (existence, location) of the essential support of the absolutely continuous component of the spectral measure for Krein systems (equivalently, the Dirac systems) and for Sturm-Liouville operators. The results are formulated for particular classes of coefficients of the systems.
