The authors consider linear periodic Fredholm integral equations of the second kind in the class \(L_2\). These equations are solved numerically by the classical Fourier method using trigonometric interpolation. A method is presented which accepts other interpolation or approximation schemes than the trigonometric polynomials. It is based on attenuation factors and makes use of the fast Fourier transform. Some convergence results are also given. Finally, an iterative solution method for the linear system arising from the discretization is presented.
