The paper deals with the nonhomogeneous Cauchy problem for the evolution \(p\)-Laplacian equation \[ \begin{cases} \partial_t u-\text{div\,}(| \nabla u| ^{p-2}\nabla u)=u^q+w(x), & x\in \mathbb R^n,\;t>0,\\ u(x,0)=u_0(x), & x\in \mathbb R^n, \end{cases} \] where \(p>1,\) \(q>\max\{1,p-1\}\) and both \(w(x)\not\equiv0\) and \(u_0(x)\) are nonnegative functions in \(\mathbb R^n.\) The author proves that \(q_c=(p-1)n/(n-p)\) is a critical exponent for the above problem when \(2n/(n+1)<p<n.\) That is, if \(q\leq q_c\) then every positive solution blows-up in a finite time, whereas the problem possesses a global positive solution for suitable \(w\) and \(u_0\) when \(q>q_c.\)
