It is known since J.~Fourier that the Riemannian metric of a manifold can be totally or partially recovered from the spectrum of differential operators on the manifold; the concept of a spectral triple due to A.~Connes seems to be a broad generalization of this classic fact. The authors of the paper under review introduce and study various spectral triples associated to manifolds with boundary; the main results are regularity of the introduced triples as well as their interaction with different aspects of mathematical physics.
