In this paper, the abstract notion of Dirac operator \(D_{\overline T}\) in complex dimension \(d\) is introduced. It is closely related to commuting \(d\)-tuples of linear operators \(\overline{T}=(T_1,\dots,T_d)\) on a Hilbert space. It turns out that all properties of \(\overline{T}\) can be derived from its Dirac operator \(D_{\overline T}\). In fact, two such abstract Dirac operators are isomorphic if and only if their associated \(d\)-tuples are unitarily equivalent. It is also shown that for all \(d\)-tuples \(\overline{T}\) which are Fredholm and graded, the curvature invariant \(K(\overline{T})\) is stable under compact perturbations. Here the relation of the curvature invariant with the index of the corresponding Dirac operator is used. It is conjectured, but not yet proved, that this stability still holds when \(\overline{T}\) is Fredholm, but ungraded.
