A systematic qualitative study of the built-in symmetry of almost greedy bases in Banach spaces is undertaken. It is shown that an almost greedy basis in a Banach space \(X\) naturally induces embeddings that allow sandwiching \(X\) between two symmetric sequence spaces. Classical interpolation techniques in combination with duality, which the authors label as interpolation of greedy bases, are also explored. At the end of the paper the ideas of the preceding sections are applied to almost greedy bases in \(l_{p}\).
