Given a finitely generated graded module \(M\) over a standard graded algebra \(A=K[x_1,\dots, x_r]/I\) with homogeneous maximal ideal \({\mathfrak m}\) and infinite base field \(K\), the author studies relations between the structure of the minimal free \(R= K[x_1,\dots,x_r]\)-resolution of \(M\) and the Koszul homology modules \(H_i(\ell, H_{\mathfrak m}^j(M))\), which he calls the Green modules of \(M\), where \(\ell= (\ell_1,\dots, \ell_r)\) is a system of generic linear forms. Using a certain spectral sequence in Koszul homology, he proves that those Green modules are of finite length, if \(i<r\) or \(j\leq r\). This result is then applied to generalize H. M. Martin's and J. C. Migliore's extension of Dubreil's theorem [cf. \textit{H. M. Martin} and \textit{J. C. Migliore}, ``Submodules of the deficiency modules and an extension of Dubreil's theorem'', J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. (to appear) and \textit{P. Dubreil}, Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 61, 258-283 (1933; Zbl 0008.12903)], and to prove that the regularity of \(M\) is completely determined by the tail of the resolution via the formula \[ \text{reg}(M)= \max\{\max\{ \text{Tor}_j^R (K,M)_n\neq 0\mid n\in\mathbb{Z}\}-j\mid \text{codim}(M)\leq j\leq r\}. \] The last formula can be viewed as a generalization of M. Green's duality theorem [cf. \textit{M. L. Green}, J. Differ. Geom. 19, 125-171 (1984; Zbl 0559.14008)] and is shown to have interesting geometrical application, e.g. to the Hartshorne-Rao module of a space curve.
