The aim of the paper under review is to further investigate the Heegaard Floer homology \(HF^+\) under the knot surgery operation. The applications include the \(\pm 1\) nonzero coefficients of Alexander polynomials, the classification of lens spaces arising from integral surgeries on knots in \(S^3\) and a constraint on 3-manifolds from integral surgery on alternating knots. The main result of the paper is Theorem 1.2 which re-interprets the symmetric Alexander polynomial \(\Delta_K (t) = \sum a_i t^i\) in terms of the Euler characteristic \(a_i = \chi (\widehat{HFK}(K, i))\) of the Floer homology, and \(\widehat{HFK}\) is determined explicitly by the Alexander polynomial \(\Delta_K (t)\) for lens spaces arising from integral surgeries of knots in \(S^3\). Section 2 collects some key properties of lens spaces and Heegaard Floer homology groups. Theorem 1.2 is proved in section 3 based on a relation between the Knot Floer homology and the Heegaard Floer homology established by the authors before. Applications are given in section 4 and 5. The paper is well-written and nice to read.
