Let (S,\(\Sigma\),\(\mu\)) be a finite measure space and H a separable, proximinal subspace of a Banach space Y. Then the author gives conditions under which \(L_ p(S,H)\), \(1\leq p\leq \infty\), is proximinal in \(L_ p(S,Y)\). We recall that H is proximinal in Y if for every x in Y there is a best approximation of x in H. Special cases have been given by \textit{I. Singer} [Best approximation in normed linear spaces by elements of linear subspaces (1970; Zbl 0197.386)] for the case when \(1<p<\infty\) and by \textit{Khalil Roshdi} [Math. Proc. Cambr. Philos. Soc. 94, 277-279 (1983; Zbl 0528.41019)] for the case when \(p=1\). The case when \(p=\infty\) is new.
