With a nilpotent matrix in the general linear Lie algebra over complex numbers one associates the so-called \textit{finite \(W\)-algebra}. If the original nilpotent matrix consists of \(n\) Jordan blocks each of the same size \(l\), in [\textit{E. Ragoucy, P. Sorba}, Commun. Math. Phys. 203, No.~3, 551--572 (1999; Zbl 0943.17009)] it was shown that the corresponding finite \(W\)-algebra is a quotient of the Yangian \(Y_n\) associated with to the \(\mathfrak{gl}_n\). Namely, the finite \(W\)-algebra in this case is isomorphic to the so-called Yangian \(Y_{n,l}\) of level \(l\). In the very interesting paper under review the authors study finite \(W\)-algebras associated with nilpotent elements of any fixed Jordan type. The main result of the paper is a very far-going generalization of the mentioned result by Ragoucy and Sorba. The authors introduce a generalization of Yangians, which they call \textit{shifted Yangians}. These objects depend on the choice of a good grading in the general linear Lie algebra, and hence can be described by certain diagrams, called \textit{pyramids} as it is done in [\textit{A. G. Elashvili, V. G. Kac}, ''Classification of good gradings of simple Lie algebras''. Vinberg, Ernest (ed.), Lie groups and invariant theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). Translations. Series 2. American Mathematical Society 213. Advances in the Mathematical Sciences 56, 85--104 (2005; Zbl 1073.17002)]. With each pyramid the authors associate the so-called \textit{shift matrix} \(\sigma\), which is used to define the shifted Yangian \(Y_n(\sigma)\). Finally, it is shown that every finite \(W\)-algebra is isomorphic to some shifted Yangians \(Y_{n.l}(\sigma)\) of level \(l\), which is the quotient of the shifted Yangian \(Y_n(\sigma)\) by a two-sided ideal, the latter being explicitly described. Apart from the main theorem the paper contains some other interesting results.
