The point of this article is that in the construction of finite difference schemes for convection equations it is not sufficient to consider only the stability and the formal order of accuracy obtained from the expansion of the dispersion relation about zero. One should also reduce the dispersion error for larger wave numbers, but of course, keeping within the Nyquist limit. Many computational examples are given.
