Let \(f:\mathbb{C}\rightarrow M\) be a holomorphic curve into a complex semi-torus \(M\) such that the image \(f(\mathbb{C})\) is Zariski dense in \(M\). Let \(D\) be an effective divisor on \(M\). If \(M\) is not compact, assume that \(\overline{D}\) is a divisor on \(\overline{M}\) satisfying a general position condition with respect to \(\partial M\). The authors prove that there is a positive integer \(k_0=k_0(f,D)\) such that the Nevanlinna characteristic function \(T_f(r;c_1(\overline{D}))\) and the valence function \(N_{k_0}(r;f^*D)\) for \(D\) are related by the following inequality of second main theorem type: \[ T_f(r;c_1(\overline{D}))=N_{k_0}(r;f^*D) +O(\log T_f(r;c_1(\overline{D})))+O(\log r) \] as \(r\to\infty\) outside of a possible exceptional set of finite linear measure. This result extends and improves those due to \textit{R. Kobayashi} [Jap. J. Math., New Ser. 26, 129-152 (2000; Zbl 1014.32012)] and \textit{Y. T. Siu} and \textit{S. K. Yeung} [Am. J. Math. 119, 1139-1172 (1997; Zbl 0947.32012)].
