In the paper under review the authors study the Drinfeld double \(\mathcal D(\Lambda)\) of the Ringel-Hall algebra, associated with an infinite-dimensional hereditary algebra \(\Lambda\), which is the tensor algebra of a \(k\)-species \(\mathcal S\) of a valued quiver \(\Gamma\) of any type. The double composition algebra \(\mathcal C(\Lambda)\) is the quantized enveloping algebra of a generalized Kac-Moody algebra \(\mathfrak g\), defined by a Borcherds-Cartan matrix \(A\), obtained from \(\Gamma\). The authors show that \(\mathcal D(\Lambda)\) itself is the quantized enveloping algebra of a bigger generalized Kac-Moody algebra. The authors also obtain a Weyl-Kac character formula for the irreducible highest weight modules with dominant highest weights. Finally, the authors prove Kac's theorem for infinite-dimensional hereditary algebras (which says that dimension vectors of indecomposable representations are exactly the positive roots of the associated root system and that for each root there is a unique indecomposable representation with the corresponding dimension vector) using the Ringel-Hall algebra approach. As a corollary it is shown that for any indecomposable representation there exist a nilpotent representation with the same dimension vector.
