The article deepens our knowledge about minimally generated Boolean algebras (in the sense of \textit{S. Koppelberg} [Order 5, No. 4, 393--406 (1989; Zbl 0676.06019)]. She proved that all such algebras are small in the sense that they do not contain an uncountable independent sequence. The author here shows that measures admitted by minimally generated algebras are separable, but not necessarily weakly uniformly regular. On the other hand, there exist Boolean algebras small in terms of measures that are not minimally generated. It is demonstrated that measures on retractive algebras can be nonseparable if CH is assumed. A zero-dimensional compact space such that the algebra of its clopen subsets is minimally generated is called Koppelberg-compact. Connections between Koppelberg compacta and Efimov spaces are discussed in some detail, where by an Efimov space a compact space is meant that neither contains a nontrivial convergent sequence nor a copy of \(\beta \omega.\)
