The Hansen-Lommel orthogonality for the Bessel function \(J_ k(z)\) is an easy consequence of the standard generating function for \(J_ k(z)\). There are two natural \(q\)-extensions of Bessel functions to basic hypergeometric series, as a \(_ 0\varphi_ 1\) or \(_ 2\varphi_ 1\) times an infinite product as introduced by Jackson, and as a \(_ 1\varphi_ 1\) as introduced by Hahn and Exton. Here two variants of the Hansen-Lommel orthogonality are obtained for Jackson's \(q\)-version of Bessel functions. A nice motiviation for the first orthogonality is given, coming from orthogonality of one of the \(q\)-Krawtchouk polynomials. The second orthogonality formally comes from the orthogonality of the dual \(q\)-Krawtchouk polynomials. In the classical case, when \(q=1\), the Krawtchouk polynomials are self dual, so there is only one of the Bessel function orthogonalities which is a limit of the Krawtchouk polynomials and their orthogonality.
