Let \(\rho\) be a modular in a vector space \(X\) and let \((X,\rho)\) be the modular space generated by \(\rho\). Generalizing the notion of a quasicontraction by \textit{Lj.\,B.\thinspace Ćirić} [Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 45, No.\,2, 267--273 (1974; Zbl 0291.54056)] to the case of a modular space, the author obtains an analogue of the Banach fixed point principle in modular spaces in the case when \(\rho\) satisfies the Fatou property, but need not obey the \(\Delta_2\)-condition.
