The authors study the equation \[ (-(pf')'+qf)/r-\lambda f=k, f,k\in L_r^2(0,1), \] subject to eigenparameter-dependent boundary conditions \[ \tau(\lambda)f(1)=(pf')(1)\text{ and }f(0)\cos\alpha=(pf')(0)\sin\alpha, \] \(\alpha\in[0,\pi)\), and \(\tau\) being related to Nevanlinna functions. First, a certain abstract \(\lambda\)-dependent problem is solved by means of compressed resolvents of selfadjoint operators and relations with finitely many negative squares. This result is then applied to solve the original boundary value problem. A linearization is constructed and its spectral properties are discussed.
