The paper under review develops the Brunn-Minkowski theory of convex bodies and initiates a study aiming at a better understanding of relationships between \textit{affine isoperimetric inequalities} and characterization results for specific \textit{Minkowski valuations}. Namely, the authors consider continuous Minkowski valuations on the space \({\mathcal K}^n\) of convex bodies in \(\mathbb R^n\), \(n\geq 2\), and impose an extra requirement, \textit{the volume constraint}, arising from the affine isoperimetric inequality associated with the difference body operator: by definition, a continuous Minkowski valuation \(\Phi: {\mathcal K}^n\to {\mathcal K}^n\) satisfies the volume constraint if there exist constants \(c_\Phi\), \(C_\Phi\) such that \[ c_\Phi V(K)\leq V(\Phi(K))\leq C_\Phi V(k),\, \forall K\in {\mathcal K}^n. \] The main result of the paper provides an explicit description of all translation invariant continuous Minkowski valuations satisfying the volume constraint. Theorem. Let \(\Phi: {\mathcal K}^n\to {\mathcal K}^n\) be a translation invariant continuous Minkowski valuation satisfying the volume constraint. Then exactly one of the following two possibilities occurs: 1) there exist a translation invariant continuous Minkowski valuation \(\Phi_1: {\mathcal K}^n\to {\mathcal K}^n\) homogeneous of degree 1 and a translation invariant continuous valuation \(p: {\mathcal K}^n\to \mathbb R^n\) such that \[ \Phi(K) = \Phi_1(K)+ p(K),\,\, \forall K\in {\mathcal K}^n; \] 2) there exist a segment \(S\), an \((n-1)\)-dimensional convex body \(L\) with \(\dim (L+S)=n\), and a translation invariant continuous valuation \(p: {\mathcal K}^n\to \mathbb R^n\) such that \[ \Phi(K) = L + V(K) S + p(K),\,\, \forall K\in {\mathcal K}^n. \] Consequently, the authors improve results from [\textit{J. Abardia-Evéquoz} et al., J. Geom. Anal. 28, No. 3, 2422--2455 (2018)] by removing homogeneity assumptions concerning Minkowski valuations. An interesting open problem is to consider other kinds of affine isoperimetric inequalities and derive corresponding metric-geometrical constraints in order to characterize particular families of Minkowski valuations.
