Let \(G\) be a locally compact abelian group. The authors study derivations on the Banach algebra \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\), that is, linear mappings \(d: L^\infty_0(G)^* \to L^\infty_0(G)^*\) with the following property: \(d(ab) = d(a) b + a d(b)\). Motivated by the Singer-Werner theorem, they prove that the range of a derivation on the noncommutative Banach algebra \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\) is contained in the radical of \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\) and a derivation on \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\) is continuous if and only if its restriction to the right annihilator of \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\) is continuous. Also, the authors characterize the space of inner derivations of \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\) and show that the zero map is the only centralizing derivation on \(L^\infty_0(G)^*\). | |||
