In this nicely written paper, it is proved that Asplund operators with range in a uniform Banach algebra have the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property. Since this property was defined in [\textit{M. D. Acosta} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)], a lot of attention has been paid to it, and the topic has been developing quickly. The results in the paper under review mean a useful addition to the field, extending a previous result in [\textit{R. M. Aron}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 139, No. 10, 3553--3560 (2011; Zbl 1235.46013)] saying that Asplund operators with range in a \(C(K)\) space have the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property. One of the ingredients used to replace \(C(K)\) by a uniform algebra in the range space is a Urysohn type lemma for uniform Banach algebras which gives the existence of peak functions in the algebra that are small outside an open set and whose image is contained in the Stolz region.
