The author considers initial value problems for scalar nonviscous conservation laws with general flux in one spatial dimension \[ \partial_tU+\partial_xA(U) = 0,\quad U(x,0) = U^0(x). \] For the flux \(A\) being smooth and convex and the \(L^\infty(\mathbb {R})\) initial distribution with \(U^0-\theta\in L^2(\mathbb {R})\) (\(\theta\) is piecewise constant with the single jump in zero) the global \(L^2\) stability result is proven: the norm of a perturbed solution relative to the shock wave is bounded by the norm of the initial perturbation up to the transition of the initial shock. The relative entropy method is applied.
