Using previous results of [the authors, ``Hypergeometric series, modular linear differential equations, and vector-valued modular forms'', Ramanujan J. (2015; \url{doi:10.1007/s11139-014-9644-x})], the paper under review studies certain noncongruence modular forms. It has been proved that these forms have unbounded denominators and in certain cases, it is verified that congruences of Atkin-Swinnerton-Dyer type [\textit{A. O. L. Atkin} and \textit{H. P. F. Swinnerton-Dyer}, in: Combinatorics, Proc. Sympos. Pure Math. 19, 1--25 (1971; Zbl 0235.10015)] are satisfied by the Fourier coefficients of these forms. The results of the article rest on group theoretic facts about the modular group \(\Gamma\), a detailed study of imprimitive three-dimensional representations of \(\Gamma\), and the theory of their associated vector-valued modular forms. For the proof of the congruences, a result of \textit{N. M. Katz} [in: Automorphic forms, representation theory and arithmetic, Pap. Colloq., Bombay 1979, 165--246 (1981; Zbl 0502.14007)] is being used essentially.
