The author derives a Bochner-type formula for almost Hermitian manifolds. Its general form is the following \(\int_M q(\nabla \omega)=\int_M {\mathcal R}_J\), where \(q\) is some quadratic form, \(\omega \) is the fundamental or Kähler 2-form and \({\mathcal R}_J\) is some curvature term that may depend on an almost Hermitian structure \(J\). From this formula, the author derives obstructions, imposed by the curvature, to the existence of certain almost Hermitian structures on a compact manifold, in the spirit of Gray-Hervella's classification [\textit{A. Gray} and \textit{L. M. Hervella}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. 123, 35-58 (1980; Zbl 0444.53032)].
