This paper deals with the following interesting problem: if \(f: R^ n\to R^ n\) is a differentiable mapping of class \(C^ k\) \((k\geq 1)\) with \(f(0)=0\) determine the maximal star shaped domain \(D_ r(f)\) centered at 0 so that \(f|_ B: B_ r\to D_ r(f)\) is a \(C^ k\)- diffeomorphism, where \(B_ r\) represents an open ball of radius r with \(0\in B_ r\). The obtained results are in connection with the classical paper of \textit{J. Hadamard} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 34, 71-84 (1906)] and with the papers of \textit{T. Ważewski} [Ann. Soc. Polon. Math. 20, 81-120 (1948; Zbl 0032.05601)] and \textit{F. V. Atkinson} [Can. Math. Bull. 4, 7-12 (1961; Zbl 0119.043)].
