The paper studies the Cauchy problem of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with derivative in \(H^{s} ({\mathbb R})\). This equation was known to be the local well-posedness for \(s \geq \frac12\) [\textit{H. Takaoka}, Adv. Differ. Equ. 4, No. 4, 561--580 (1999; Zbl 0951.35125)], ill-posedness for \(s< \frac12\) [\textit{H. A. Biagioni} and \textit{F. Linares} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 353, No.~9, 3649--3659 (2001; Zbl 0970.35154)] and global well-posedness for \( s > \frac12\) [\textit{J. Colliander} et al., SIAM J. Math. Anal. 34, No. 1, 64--86 (2002; Zbl 1034.35120)]. In this paper, the authors show that it is global well-posedness in the endpoint space \(H^{\frac12} ({\mathbb R})\), which remained open previously. The main approach is the third generation I-method combined with a new resonant decomposition technique. The resonant decomposition is applied to control the singularity coming from the resonant interaction.
