In this extensive paper, the author considers state-dependent neutral functional differential equations of the form \[ \frac{d}{dt}\left(x(t)-g(t,x_t,x(t-\rho(t,x_t,\chi)),\lambda)\right)= f(t,x_t,x(t-\tau(t,x_t,\xi)),\theta),\quad t\in[0,T],\tag{1} \] with initial condition \[ x(t)=\phi(t),\quad t\in[-r,0].\tag{2} \] \(\theta\in\Theta\), \(\xi\in\Xi\), \(\lambda\in\Lambda\) and \(\chi\in\Upsilon\) represent parameters, where \(\Theta\), \(\Xi\), \(\Lambda\) and \(\Upsilon\) are normed linear spaces. The segment function \(x_t\) is defined by \(x_t(s)=x(t+s)\), \(s\in[-r,0]\). In a way this paper is a continuation of the author's paper [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 324, No. 1, 504--524 (2006; Zbl 1115.34077)]. Here, the well-posedness of the initial value problem (1)--(2) is discussed, and, then, using and improving a method in the mentioned paper, the differentiability of solutions of the initial value problem with respect to the initial function \(\phi\), the parameters \(\xi\), \(\theta\), \(\lambda\) and \(\chi\) is studied.
