This paper considers parallel, iterative algorithms for solving the Helmholtz equation. The solutions are in general complex-valued and the problems are not Hermitian. Consequently the usual iterative methods fail to converge and the condition numbers of the matrices obtained by finite difference or finite element methods are high. The methods adopted in this paper are domain decomposition methods (overlapping or non-overlapping domains). Such methods require complicated interface operations between the domains and a modified Robin interface condition is used. One difficulty is that there are flux conservation errors between the domains. An error analysis is given and examples are presented.
