The efficient modeling of semiconductor devices using convection-diffusion systems represents a numerical challenge. This paper is focused on a specific finite element method (local discontiuous Galerkin approach). The application is on transport equations involving first and second order derivatives (heat and Poisson equations). Models and numerical approaches are described in detail.
