The paper presents a very successful attempt to define a state on a pseudo BL-algebra \(M\), an analogue of a probability measure. The problem is that in contrast to pseudo MV-algebras or MV-algebras, neither BL-algebras nor pseudo BL-algebras admit an additive structure, in general, which could provide a state as an additive functional on \(M\) taking values from the real interval \([0,1]\). The author was inspired by some older identity, due to B. Bosbach, on residuated lattices. This identity allows him to define a state which in the case of pseudo MV-algebras is equivalent to the notion of a state defined by the reviewer [Stud. Log. 68, 301--327 (2001; Zbl 0999.06011)]. As a result, if \(s\) is a state on \(M\), then \(M/\text{Ker}(s)\) is an MV-algebra, where \(\text{Ker}(s) =\{x\in M:\;s(x) =1\}.\)
