Two elements \(a\) and \(b\) in a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) are said to be orthogonal (denoted by \(a\perp b\)) if \(ab^*=b^*a=0\). A linear map \(T\) between two \(C^*\)-algebras \(A\) and \(B\) is said to biorthogonality preserving whenever the equivalence \[ x\perp y\iff T(x)\perp T(y) \] holds for all \(x,y\in A\). In this well written paper, the authors show that every biorthogonality preserving linear surjection between two dual or compact \(C^*\)-algebras or between two von Neumann algebras is automatically continuous.
