In the following let X be a rigid analytic space which is separated and quasi-compact. The author shows that the following conditions are equivalent: (1) \(H^ q(X,{\mathcal F})=0\) for all \(q\geq 1\) and for all coherent \({\mathcal O}_ X\)-modules \({\mathcal F},\) (2) X is holomorphically separable and \(H=q(X,{\mathcal O}_ X)=0\) for all \(q\geq 1.\) Rigid spaces with these properties are called quasi-compact rigid Stein- spaces. Any affinoid space is a quasi-compact rigid Stein-space; but there is an example given by the author for a quasi-compact rigid Stein- space which is not affinoid. Moreover the author proves an analogon of the Gerritzen-Grauert theorem: (A rational subdomain of X is a subset of type \(U=\{x\in X;\quad | f_{\nu}(x)| \leq | f_ 0(x)| \text{ for } \nu =1,...,n\}\) where \(f_ 0,...,f_ n\) are global functions on X which generate the unit ideal.) Any open affinoid subdomain of a quasi-compact rigid Stein-space is a finite union of rational subdomains. In particular, a quasi-compact rigid Stein-space admits a finite covering by affinoid rational subdomains.
