This paper offers a formal analysis of the existence of fundamental (spherically symmetric) localized solutions of the standard model of the second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a \(D\)-dimensional space, in the form of solitons, i.e., localized states self-trapped under the action of the quadratic (SHG) nonlinearity. Using variational methods, the authors present a proof of the existence of such solutions in the space of dimension up to \(D=5\), and non-existence in the space with \(D\geq 6\). The analysis is presented in detail for the degenerate (two-component) system, and briefly for the nondegenerate (three-wave) one. A contact with results on the same topic, previously published in physics literature, is not established in this paper.
