The aim of this paper is to describe the structure of symplectic Lie groups \((G, \omega ^+)\) in terms of semi-direct products of Lie groups or symplectic reduction and principal fiber bundles with affine fibers. This description can be improved if the canonical left action \(L_G\) of \(G\) on \(G\) is Hamiltonian. The main role in this study is played by a left-invariant torsion-free and flat connection \(\nabla^+\) with important applications in mathematical physics.
