Let \(A=k[x_1,\ldots,x_n]\) be a polynomial ring over a field \(k\). Let \(I\) be a homogeneous ideal and \(I^{lex}\) the lex-segment ideal with the same Hilbert function as \(I\). The ideal \(I\) is Gotzmann if it has the same number of minimal generators as \(I^{lex}\). The authors classify all the Gotzmann ideals with at most \(n\) generators. By a result of \textit{J. Herzog} and \textit{T. Hibi} [Nagoya Math. J. 153, 141--153 (1999; Zbl 0930.13018)] \(I\) is Gotzmann if and only if \(I\) and \(I^{lex}\) have the same graded Betti numbers. In the second part of the paper two classes of Hilbert functions are introduced, with the property that if \(H\) is in the class, then all the ideals with Hilbert function \(H\) have the same graded Betti numbers.
