This book presents a unified algebraic approach to the study of linear, time-invariant multi-input multi-output full feedback and decentralized feedback control systems that can be applied to continuous-time, discrete-time and lumped-parameters system models. The authors use a factorization approach which is based on ring theory; the algebraic tools needed in the book are collected in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 treats unity- feedback systems, i.e. standard multi-input multi-output feedback systems without restrictions on the compensator structure. A second configuration treated in the same chapter is a more general interconnection where the plant and the compensator have inputs and outputs that are not utilized in the feedback loop. Chapter 4 studies decentralized control structures where the compensators are constrained to have a block-diagonal structure. Two-channel decentralized control systems are first investigated; the results are then extended to multi-channel decentralized control systems. All systems considered are assumed to be completely described by their transfer matrices. The book can be particularly appreciated for the completeness of its content.
