Within the context of Orlicz spaces and of generalized Hölder spaces conditions for boundedness and compactness of nonlinear Hammerstein- Volterra operators are derived and applied to questions of local solvability of the corresponding integral equations of the second kind of the form \(x(t) = \int^ t_ 0 k(t,s) f(s,x(s)) ds\), \(t \geq 0\). Special attention is paid to weakly singular kernels \(k(t,s) = h(t,s)/(t - s)^ \lambda\) with \(0 < \lambda < 1\) and a bounded and sufficiently regular function \(h\).
