If \(a_n(G)\) denotes the number of subgroups of index \(n\) in a finitely generated group \(G\), then the sequence \(\{a_n\}\) characterizes the growth of subgroups of \(G\). The authors show that, if the subgroup growth of a finitely generated (abstract or profinite) group \(G\) is super-exponential, then every finite group occurs as a quotient of a finite index subgroup of \(G\). The following problems are also stated: 1. Let \(G\) be a finitely generated group of super-exponential subgroup growth. Does it follow that \(G\) has a finite index subgroup with nonabelian free quotient? 2. Is there any finitely generated group whose type is stricly between exponential and factorial?
