A fourth-order difference equation of the form \(\Delta^2 (r_n \Delta^2y_n)+ f(n,y_n)=0\), \(n\in\mathbb{N} (n_0)\) is considered, where \(\sum^\infty_{n=n_0} (n/r_n) <\infty\) and \(f(n,u)\) is classified as superlinear, sublinear, strongly superlinear, or strongly sublinear. In the superlinear and sublinear cases, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of nonoscillatory solutions of the above equation with a specified asymptotic behavior. As to the strongly superlinear and strongly sublinear cases, the authors offer necessary and sufficient conditions for the oscillatory behavior of all solutions of such equations.
