This paper considers the discrete-time counterpart of the continuous-time problem studied in [\textit{J. T.-Y. Wen} and \textit{M. J. Balas}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 143, 1-26 (1989; Zbl 0701.93086)]. By relating the concept of a strictly positive-real transfer function to the solution of the Lur'e equations it is shown that model reference adaptive control produces output tracking of a finite-dimensional, stable model for an infinite-dimensional plant.
