Based on characteristic solution for unbounded layered media obtained by the authors in [Int. J. Solids Struct. 36, No. 31-32, 4699-4723 (1999; Zbl 0935.74066)], the authors solve the title problem for spherical and cylindrical domains. The main idea of the method is to seek the solution in the form \({\partial u\over\partial n}=B*u\), where \(u\) is a field variable, \(*\) denotes the convolution operator, and \(B\) is a global matrix operator. The method combines numerical and analytical (Fourier) procedures. A comparison of results obtained by the proposed method with results available in the literature shows the validity of the method.
