The author continues an earlier investigation of powerdomains [ibid. 74, 198-225 (1987; Zbl 0627.06011)]. His earlier construction of the powerdomain P(D) involved taking Frink ideals of the domain D. From the viewpoint of denotational semantics, it is important to identify members of the powerdomain with subsets of D. In this paper he shows directed ideals in P(D) may be identified with order convex subsets of D which are compact in the Lawson topology, and arbitrary Frink ideals by certain collections of such subsets. The powerdomain operations of union and big union are defined and studied in this context and the relationship with the classical Plotkin powerdomain is considered.
