The Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier (KLR) algebras ([\textit{M. Khovanov} and \textit{A. D. Lauda}, Represent. Theory 13, 309--347 (2009; Zbl 1188.81117); [\textit{R. Rouquier}, ``2-Kac-Moody algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:0812.5023}]), or quiver Hecke algebras, are a family of graded algebras whose representation theory provides a categorification of the negative part of the quantized enveloping algebra associated to a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra. In addition to categorifying this algebra structure, the isoclasses of irreducible modules yield the dual canonical (also called upper global) basis. Cyclotomic quotients categorify integrable highest weight modules and the grading on the KLR algebras yield new gradings on symmetric group algebras. From the perspective of this paper, however, the significance of the KLR algebras is related to their alternative name, quiver Hecke algebras. Specifically, up to some specialisation and localisation, in affine type A one recovers affine Hecke algebras. The present work is concerned with a superalgebra generalisation of the KLR algebras, herein called quiver Hecke superalgebras. Recall that a superalgebra is a \(\mathbb{Z}_{2}\)-graded algebra and that one may generalise most notions from the representation theory of algebras to the super case, notably obtaining supercategories (a category with an endofunctor whose square is isomorphic to the identity and satisfies some further natural conditions) of supermodules. Associated to a Dynkin diagram whose vertex set is decomposed into a disjoint union \(I=I_{\mathrm{even}}\sqcup I_{\mathrm{odd}}\), the authors define a family of graded superalgebras \(R_{n}\), the quiver Hecke superalgebras, which include the quiver Hecke algebras as the case \(I_{\mathrm{odd}}=\emptyset\). They also introduce quiver Hecke--Clifford superalgebras and show that these two families are weakly Morita superequivalent. These are then related to existing classes of superalgebras generalising Hecke algebras, namely affine Hecke-Clifford superalgebras and affine Sergeev superalgebras. In subsequent work, the first two authors together with \textit{S.j. Oh} [Adv. Math. 242, 116--162 (2013; Zbl 1304.17012)] have shown that the superalgebras introduced here provide a supercategorification of quantum Kac--Moody algebras and their integrable highest weight modules.
