If \(p_0,p_1,\dots,p_n\) are distinct numbers in \([1,\infty)\), it is shown that \(\ell_{p_0}\) does not enjoy any coarse Lipschitz embedding into \(\ell_{p_1}\oplus\dots\oplus\ell_{p_n}\). As a consequence, the latter space has unique uniform structure, i.e., any Banach space uniformly homeomorphic to it is already isomorphic to it, provided no \(p_i\) is equal to 1 or 2.\ This result answers a question of \textit{W.\,B.\thinspace Johnson, J.\,Lindenstrauss} and \textit{G.\,Schechtman} [Geom.\ Funct.\ Anal.\ 6, No.\,~3, 430--470 (1996; Zbl 0864.46008)], who had established some special cases. It remains unknown whether \(\ell_p\oplus\ell_2\) has unique uniform structure (for \(p\neq2\)); it is shown here not to be uniformly homeomorphic to \(L_p(0,1)\).
