The authors present a construction of self-dual ternary codes based on negacirculant matrices. By using this construction for random samples of negacirculant matrices, they generate extremal self-dual codes that are later tested with the MAGMA package. In this way they obtain new extremal ternary self-dual codes of lengths 32, 40, 44, 52 and 56, and some new extremal quasi-twisted self-dual codes. Also, they claim that this approach provides all the known extremal self-dual codes of lengths 36, 48, 52 and 64.
