In the modular representation theory of algebraic groups, one has the key concepts of a module having a good (costandard) or Weyl (standard) filtration or both (a tilting module). These ideas can be considered for any highest weight category, and the interest in the paper under review is in representations of algebraic supergroups, particularly the general linear supergroup \(GL(m|n)\). The author first obtains criteria for a finite-dimensional \(GL(m|n)\)-supermodule to admit a good or Weyl filtration. The criteria involve a related module for the largest even subsupergroup \(GL(m|n)_{ev}\) having a good or Weyl filtration (respectively) and the vanishing of certain (co)homology for a unipotent subsupergroup. The author then introduces the notion of a Steinberg module for \(GL(m|n)\) analogous to the classical Steinberg module for an algebraic group. As in the classical case, it is shown that the restriction of an \(r\)th Steinberg module to the \(r\)th Frobenius kernel of \(GL(m|n)\) is injective and projective. A new collection of tilting modules is then constructed by taking the tensor product of a Steinberg module with a Frobenius twist of an indecomposable tilting module for \(GL(m|n)_{ev}\). In a similar spirit, again analogous to the classical situation, it is also shown that the tensor product of a Steinberg module with a corresponding Frobenius twist of the injective hull of an irreducible \(GL(m|n)_{ev}\)-module is the injective hull of an irreducible \(GL(m|n)\)-module. Lastly the author considers exterior and symmetric powers of the natural supermodule for \(GL(m|n)\). Applying the ideas of the paper, the author determines precisely which powers admit good or Weyl filtrations.
