An \(F\)-crystal in characteristic \(p\) is associated with a formally smooth \(\mathbb F_p\)-algebra \(A\) and a certain endomorphism of a lifting of \(A\) over \(\mathbb Z_p\). The Hodge-Newton decompositions and Hodge-Newton filtrations for \(F\)-crystals were studied by Katz, who generalized Messing's result on the existence of the local étale filtration for \(p\)-divisible groups. Some of Katz's results have recently been extended to the case of \(F\)-crystals with additional structures and that of \(\mu\)-ordinary \(p\)-divisible groups by Kottwitz and Moonen, respectively. In this paper the authors investigate further generalizations to the cases of crystals in characteristic \(p\) and of \(p\)-divisible groups with additional structure by endomorphisms.
