Let \({\mathfrak g}\) be a complex semisimple Lie algebra. The author explicitly describes the entire inverse of the Shapovalov form (a \(U({\mathfrak g})\)-invariant bilinear pairing) associated to irreducible Verma modules. His formula implies that the singularities of the inverse are all simple poles.
