In an old paper of the reviewer [\textit{M. V. Lawson}, J. Algebra 141, No. 2, 422-462 (1991; Zbl 0747.18007)], a class of semigroups closely related to Ehresmann's ordered categories was studied as generalisations of inverse semigroups. Such semigroups are termed `\(E\)-semiadequate'. The study of this class of semigroups is taken further by the authors in the paper under review. They establish two interesting results. Firstly, they generalise the Munn semigroup and its concomitant theory to a class of \(E\)-semiadequate semigroups. Secondly, they prove, amongst other things, that the Schützenberger product of two monoids is \(E\)-semiadequate.
