It is well known that the left- and right-multiplication of quaternions can be described in terms of real \(4\times 4\)-matrices. The authors describe some elementary properties of this matrix representation. Somewhat surprisingly, no reference is made to \(3\)-dimensional elliptic geometry, where all this is very well known (Clifford parallelism and Clifford translations). Also, linear equations over the quaternions are treated in terms of matrices.
