The paper deals with a Euler-Bernoulli beam equation together with certain boundary control laws. The authors prove that the generalized eigenfunctions form a Riesz basis and a \(C_0\) contraction semigroup \(T(t)\), \(t\geq 0\) is generated. The authors show also that \(T(t)\) is uniformly stabel and the optimal exponential decay rate can be obtained from the spectrum of the system.
